Silver Pigment CI 77820 will be banned starting May 1, 2026

The nail industry is buzzing with rumors. The culprit? The so-called Omnibus VIII regulation. Although it had been discussed for some time, the official publication of the legislation did not take place until January 13, 2026. With a deadline of May 1, 2026, this means the industry was given a transition period of less than four months.

At Alina Hoyo Nail Artist, we value transparency and want you to feel confident in your salon. That’s why we’re explaining exactly how we’re handling this.

Why are we so vigilant now?

You probably still remember last year’s TPO ban. Although we were already working with a compliance partner at the time, we (like the rest of the industry) were caught off guard by the fine print. Even the experts hadn’t anticipated that the ban would apply not only to sales but also to the use of existing inventory in the salon.

That experience was a huge eye-opener for us. It’s the reason why we’re now much more proactive. Although the final law wasn’t published until January, the draft lists had already been released earlier. Through our partner, we were already aware last year of which ingredients were most likely to be banned. So we’ve been screening our collections for months, long before the law was official.

The status of your favorite products

Colors, gels and liquids from Ugly Duckling Nails

Good news: the entire Ugly Duckling Nails line that we currently sell is 100% compliant. The formulas are modern and contain no substances covered by the new ban. Have you recently purchased these products, or do they currently sit on your shelves? You can continue to use them safely, even after May 1.

Pigments & Glitters

We’re taking the safest approach here. Because we want absolute certainty about every single jar of glitter and every chrome pigment, we’ve temporarily removed them from the shop. Although most chrome effects are safe, we’re having everything double-checked for the specific silver pigments that are being restricted. For us, safety comes before speed. You’ll hear more about this in April!

Old Color Acryls from Ugly Duckling Nails

The only exception is the old Color Acryls from Ugly Duckling Nails (which we haven’t sold for a while). Some of these old colors contain the silver pigment CI 77820. As of May 1, 2026, this pigment is no longer allowed in nail products. Do you still have a very old bottle lying around? Then check the ingredient list on the packaging or contact us.

What about Urban Nails and Moyra?

We have thoroughly checked our current stock of Urban Nails and Moyra ourselves. The products we are currently selling are fine.

Since we don’t have historical data for all old batches of these brands, we’re currently working on a “DIY Checklist.” We’ll publish this on our site in April. You can use it to go through your drawers and check whether an old jar (regardless of the brand) still meets the latest requirements.

What now?

  1. Don’t panic: You don’t need to rush to clear out your studio just yet.
  2. Stay tuned: In April, we’ll share more updates, the checklist, and information on how we ensure that all our products (from liquids to tools) meet the strictest safety standards.
  3. Check the website: You can already find the full ingredient list under the description for almost every product on our website.

Do you have a specific question? Send an email to our team, we’d be happy to help!

Best regards,
Alina, Bobby & team
